Navigatøren og barnet* (The Navigator and the Child)

Navigatøren og barnet by Jean-Rock Gaudreault is about Nora (10 years) who comes home and finds an unknown man in the kitchen. He calls himself Jacob and tells her he has been sent there by the dean at school. The dean has linked lonely retired persons with children who go alone home in a friend program. Help! Nora doesn’t want to be friends with any old man! How can she get rid of him as soon as possible?

After the reading of Navigatøren og barnet Jean-Rock Gaudreault was present during the launch of the book Åpen Tekst 2. There was a conversation between him and the two Norwegian playwrights Espen Dekko and Marie Hafting in the bookstore Norli. Dekko and Hafting have made the Norwegian adaptations of Gaudreault’s Hvordan snakke om Gud til et barn når verden gråter (How to Talk about God to a Child when the World is Crying, originally, in French: Comment parler de Dieu à un enfant pendant que le monde pleure) and Navigatøren og barnet (The Navigator and the Child, originally, in French: Le Navigateur et l’Enfant).

The event was supported by Canada Arts Council, Ministere Culturel de Quebec and The Norwegian Embassy in Ottawa.
