At the webpage of Ferske Scener the following is written about ArtLab# Vestregata:
"In ArtLab#5 Vestregata, the audience gets to meet a theatre text in development, about the near history of Tromsø.
The year is 1960. Eight verbally strong women tell about their lives together, in a municipal building where everybody knows everything about everybody. At the centre of the story is Johanne and her daughter Synnøve. Johanne struggles with her life. It costs Synnøve. Around her are women who are more or less able to act, and they wonder if the girl should have been at an orphanage. Or should Johanne leave it all in the hands of God? How about finding a real man?
Darkness lurks just beneath the surface, but this is a humorous, life-confirming story. Vestregata describes a part of Tromsø's history we don't know enough about.
The action starts the year of the opening of Tromsø Bridge, when a new time is about to begin. People live in barracks built by Germans due to lack of homes. There are women who do what they can do to grab hold of their husband's pocketbooks when he gets home from fishing, so that he won't drink for it all, and it is taken for granted that girls from working class families must go straight into work, even though they are doing great at school, whereas their brothers are allowed to take upper secondary schools.
The audience will experience a staged reading of a text not yet finished. Much can happen, and the meeting with the audience is central to the further work on the text."
