More

Karel Čapek's The Mother is a war drama. In their book Den Nationale Scene 1931-1976 (literally: The National Stage 1931-1976), Knut Nygaard and Eiliv Eide describe it as follows:

"The heroine is the mother who has already lost her husband and four sons to war, and she has hated war and all its being later. But when she hears that the enemy attacks hospitals, kindergartens, and schools, and harms young people, she gives up her pacifist conviction, and hands her only surviving son the gun, before sending him to war."
