"In Dream of Autumn, one of our age's greatest playwrights draws entirely ordinary life trajectories and some entirely everyday meetings between people. People who are close to one another, or once used to be. But in Fosse's characteristic, poetic language, this story is elevated into a timeless story of how love develops.
Destiny meeting
A man and a woman meet seemingly random at a cemetery. They know each other already, and they have always felt an attraction. Years slide by, almost impossible to notice. He leaves his wife and child. Loses touch with his parents and his son. Perhaps because he wanted to. Perhaps because that was just what happened. Everything has happened, and nothing has happened. Everything is a game, and everything is serious.
Canonised
Dream of Autumn is, according to the Morgenbladet jury canonising the play in 2013, a key to Fosse's oeuvre: 'Within these ranges a playwright of world format sketches up deeply human and clearly unclear destinies, struggling with big things and small in an eternally pulsating dynamic'. Fosse's drama, novels and poetry have been translated to approximately forty languages. He has been staged across large parts of the world, has won The International Ibsen Award, The Nordic Council Literature Prize and is often mentioned as a candidate for the Nobel Prize in literature.
Trine Wiggen
Director and actress Trine Wiggen has a close relationship to Jon Fosse's writing. She made her debut at The National Stage in 1995 as the girl in The Name, Fosse's break-through play. Since then she has developed concepts and processed text in several of his plays, mainly for the field of independent performing arts. In 2002 she adapted the novel Closed Guitar, which was performed under the title Liv at The National Stage and later has been produced by Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation's radio drama division, and by Danish Broadcasting Corporation."
