The Mysteries of Love merges music dance and song, exploring the boundaries between concert and dance theatre.
The title for the production The Mysteries of love by Erna Omarsdóttir and Jóhann Jóhannsson stems from the theme song of the movie Blue Velvet by David Lynch. The Mysteries of love is the second of ten planned suites merging music, movements and song, while exploring the boundaries between concert and dance theatre. The previous was called IBM 1401, a user´s manual.
"For this project, as sources, we wanted to involve, among other things, texts, films and themes connected to teenagers and adolescence. Films like Blue Velvet and countless horror films show the manifestations of the dark side, young people losing innocence, virginity, discovering deeply ambivalent and conflicting emotions", Erna Omarsdóttir and Jóhann Jóhannsson said in 2006.
Icelandic Erna Omarsdóttir was educated at P.A.R.T.S. and has worked as a dancer in companies such as Les Ballet C de la B and Troubleyn/Jan Fabre. With the musician and composer Jóhann Jóhannsson she had formerly produced the critically acclaimed production IBM1401 – A User’s Manual. The production The Mysteries of Love was part of BergArt 2006.
