Exit Strategies

Exit Strategies (2012) is a production by Happy Gorilla Dance Company.

At the webpage of Bastard, the international performing arts festival of Trondheim, the following, among other things, is written about Exit Strategies:

"The dance of finance is rockingly schizophrenic and the rhythms asymmetrical, from the most ecstatic euphoria to bottomless depression.

The fans of the plutonomy idea points at the rich and hopes that the production of luxury goods are to keep the wheels going even though one can hear the machinery squeak. Obviously some greasing is needed. Happy Gorilla Dance Company (HGDC) takes business seriously and starts at the bottom - one place one does have to start."

At the webpage of Bastard, the international performing arts festival of Trondheim, the following, among other things, is written about Exit Strategies:

"Big conglomerates (and military strategies) always have an exit strategy ready. But what about the rest of us, who in our godlessness embrace profits and progression? The faith in the future stumbles nervously, in tune with the financial dance, and the doubt grows and keeps growing. Still, HGDC occupies an empty, shut-down shop and goes through with its business plan in an attempt to surpass doubt and step into euphoria.

Happy Gorilla Dance Company is a recently started multi-genre live art project with Jørgen Knudsen among the involved. He is known as one of the forces behind legendary Baktruppen. It may not be so surprising that this company creates performing arts with clear social commentary, great entertainment value and a lot of strange ideas.

Exit Strategies is a social examination in two parts, in which HGDC researches how society works and reacts in a given situation, for instance a recession. During the day the audience may visit an installation, and during the evening there is a performance in the same venue."

Supported by: Nordic Culture Point, The Fund for Performing Artists, The Audio Visual Fund, the municipality of Bergen, The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (travel grant/performing arts).
