In Black Rider, the accountant Wilhelm falls in love with the forester's daughter Kätchen. The forester wants a hunter as his son-in-law, not an office worker, and Wilhelm has to prove himself worthy of her by taking part in a shooting test.

The Hedda Jury gave the following reason for the award for Sigrid Strøm Reibo:

"Some of our young directors have been educated at home, others have brought exciting new impulses from abroad. Together they have given Norwegian theatre a pleasurable lift the past 15 years. So has this year's winner, who has proven a particular ability to make a text contemporary through purposefully searching for its real message, for so to create a convincing totality through uniting light, sound, physical expressivity and dance with intimate, confident person instruction.

The award goes to a splendid, entertaining reinterpretation of Black Rider at The Arctic Theatre, and a thorough and very successful new version of Molière's The Misanthrope at Rogaland Theatre.

The Hedda award for best direction goes to Sigrid Strøm Reibo."

Press coverage

Lillian Bikset, Eventyr for voksne (literally: Fairytale for adults), Dagbladet September 22 2011:

"Black Rider is a fabulous fable. (...) Waits' lyrics stay clad in English. The speech sequences are (mostly) translated into Northern Norwegian by Ragnar Olsen, but at times English takes over here, too. It maintains the character of dreams, and fortifies the feeling that the action takes place at many levels. But it will also make the performance demanding for many in the audience. (...) In her direction Sigrid Strøm Reibo is a glutton for animal metaphors, obviously in close collaboration with choreographer Oleg Glushkov. (...) The legend's allusions to intoxication are underlined, but not overdone. In this musical the room of interpretation is wide, and literal characterisation is not much of a point. The characters are metaphors of motivations as much as they are persons of their own."
