Prometheus in Athens
Prometheus in Athens is a theatre production by Rimini Protokoll, inspired by the classic Prometheus Bound: What do Athenians know and what do they think about the myth and the play today?
Prometheus in Athens is pursuing this question with 103 citizens of Athens. On the one hand these 103 Athenians represent the city according to basic official statistic values. On the other they identify or sympathise with particular aspects of the drama Prometheus Bound.
Prometheus was the Greek god who brought fire to the humans. He was punished for this: Zeus chained him to a cliff and sent an eagle to eat off him. The humans were punished too: Pandora, with sufferings and disease, was sent to Earth.
Prometheus in Athens was performed in Oslo as part of the Monsters of Reality festival. Monsters of Reality was a theatre festival with the theme of theatre based on reality.

In Prometheus in Athens the artist-collective Rimini Protokoll collaborates with people who have experiences with the disposition to durable sufferings; who see themselves as well in a situation of uncompromising insurgency; people who understand their jobs as a continuation of the "promethean effort" to improve the human future; people who execute uneasily but consequently the power of the state; people who are on the run; people who think to have broken a law for the sake of others; and people who perceive God as a more important legislator than civic society.
This special performance-lecture will be showing the film of the event. Four performers from Prometheus in Athens will appear live on stage, and in dialogue with the film.
