Rike Per* (Rich Per)

Rike Per* (Rich Per) (2000) by Teater Joker was a fairytale about power, desire and courage. It was rolled out in the pace of a gallop, yes, as rapidly as the riches had flooded Norway the past years. The play was about the greedy Rike Per (Rich Per) who wanted to do whatever it takes to keep the daughter's suitors away. He has more than enough money to buy it all, but not them all. One day an impoverished boy who doesn't own anything comes visiting.

More

The production Rike Per* (Rich Per) by Teater Joker used the expressions of cartoon mime/bandes mime and oral storytelling.

The art of oral storytelling is a direct, oral narration technique. The storyteller keeps the story emphasised, to provide the images of the listeners’ room to exist. This old tradition has been awoken to life in our contemporary time and it is a dialogue between a storyteller and a listener meeting through a story.

Rike Per* (Rich Per) is based on the fairytales Per, The Rich MerchantThe Devil with the Three Golden Hairs and Marco the Rich.

The production has been performed 328 times and toured with The National Touring Network for Performing Arts in the following counties: Møre og Romsdal, Oppland, Aust-Agder, Vest-Agder, Sør-Trøndelag, Sogn og Fjordane, Hordaland, Vestfold, Hedmark, Akershus and Telemark. The production was also performed at Black Box Teater in Oslo, The Market for Performing Arts in Sandefjord and at Porsgrunn International Theatre Festival.

Press coverage

IdaLou Larsen, date unknown, Nationen [Oslo, Norway]:
"Theatre game at a high level. One rarely sees theatre which is on the one side so artistically thought-through and renewing tradition, and on the other side so immediately appeals to the audience."

Anne Ekornholmen, date unknown, TA [Norway]:
"Adventurous illusions, worthy of six pips on the die. All of a sudden one understands what the word theatre spectacle really stems from. To imagine another world. Rike Per* (Rich Per) became a fairytale experience for adults and children."
