Stella
Stella (2002) is a production by Kulturproduksjoner. Stella is a storytelling shadow theatre performance about a girl, about oppression and courage – and about the stars of hope.
The play is based on two old legends, but the context is new. One actor tells, sings and brings life to the characters of the play.

Stella by Kulturproduksjoner tells the story about Stella, who is born far north in the world. Her eyes shine like stars and not all can cope with the light from her eyes.
Stella comes to a country where the king has a grinder grinding everything he asks it to. First the grinder grins corn and good days for the people. One day the king decides that the grinder is to grind gold. He needs slaves to pull the grinder, and the people begin to starve. Stella becomes the opposition and challenger of the king. Can she free the people from slavery?
Stella was supported by Arts Council Norway, The Fund for Performing Artists, the county of Hedmark, The Norwegian Actors’ Equity Association’s fund for freelancers and the municipality of Hamar.
It has been performed approximately 500 times over large parts of Norway.

"You sit on star-shaped pillows in a curved tent. Over you shine the stars on the sky, and around you exciting things, sometimes as stories from the mouth of Henrik Høie, other times as fragile glockenspiel tones, or soft tunes from a guitar. From a star-shaped box the strangest persons rise, and the box can just as well be a ship as the water source of the king’s. On the tent walls you can see the drama play out. There the tent walls are transformed into a venue for shadow theatre. You can follow the girl Stella’s journey out in the world, join a voyage into the mountains and become scared by the dangerous jaws of the wolf."
