De tarvelige - og en gammel dame* (The Contemptible - and an Old Lady)

Petrusjka Teater has in the production De tarvelige - og en gammel dame* (The Contemptible - and an Old Lady) explored the contemptible, detestable and ugly in the aesthetic and ethical. De tarvelige - og en gammel dame was inspired by Bertolt Brecht’s short story The Unseemly Old Lady and Kaurismäki’s movies from the shadowed sides of life. This is puppetry for double bass and 12 puppets.

In the production De tarvelige - og en gammel dame (literally: The Contemptible - and an Old Lady) Petrusjka Teater questions what we usually accept as classy, ladylike and appropriate. For who is really worthy of our contempt in this story? The old lady, who after a long and subdued life with a husband and many children becomes widowed and enters warm relationships with somewhat inappropriate people? Or the controllers around her? Tatjana Zaitzow celebrates 25 years as the director of Petrusjka Teater with De tarvelige - og en gammel dame.

Press coverage

"T.Zaitzow surpasses herself in creating an environment and characters."

Martin Nordvik, Adresseavisen

"The puppets are more human than it’s possible to make a real live actor, with facial mimicry and a body language bringing you directly into the illusion, keeping you there."

Amund Gimstad, Klassekampen

"Great puppetry about the outcasts"
