The Curators' Piece

(A trial against art)

The Curators' Piece is a production by Tea Tupajić and Petra Zanki (Bosnia and Herzegovina/Croatia).

The production questions the role and significance of art in contemporary times. The Curators' Piece is built like a project in which two Eastern European artists invite curators from leading institutions and festivals in Western Europe and USA to collaboration and dialogue.

"Relying on the relations between the artists, the curators and the audience, the performance deals with the possibility of art’s influence on today’s society (...) in the context of a staged trial against the arts, in which international curators take turn on the bench of the accused and defend the arts. The project The Curators' Piece is realised through five works - an edition of the Frakcija journal called On Curating the Performing Arts, the performance The Trial of Art, the video installation The Game With Objects, an online archive and multimedia library, and an iPhone application.

The Curators' Piece by Tea Tupajić and Petra Zanki was supported bythe Norwegian Ministry for Foreign Affairs/MFA (travel grant/performing arts).

"The performance is liberatingly innovative in form, intense, informative and humorous."

Writer and date unknown, Svenska Dagbladet [Sweden]:
"The effect is smart and the selection of curators also provides an image of those who through their work in selecting artists and themes for festivals rule which performances are visible in European theatre."

Writer and date unknown, Dagens Nyheter [Sweden]:
"The conclusion - that a world without art is a dead world - is convincing."
