Ingrid Lorentzen

Ingrid Lorentzen (born March 9 1972, Trondheim) is a Norwegian dancer, choreographer and actress, who has been the artistic director of The National Ballet, The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet since August 1 2012.

Ingrid Lorentzen was educated at The National Academy of Ballet (1988–89) and at The Royal Swedish Ballet School. She also has studied dance in New York and Paris.

Ingrid Lorentzen has been steadily employed in The National Ballet from 1998, from 2000 as a solo dancer.

She has danced classical roles, such as Odette and Odile in Swan Lake as well as leading parts in works by contemporary choreographers such as Jiří Kylián, Jo Strømgren and Paul Lightfoot & Sol León. Outside of the opera house she has taken on assignments as a freelancer, among other things she did the choreography for the theatre production Romeo and Juliet for Trøndelag Theatre (2010), and she interpreted one of the leading parts of the film The Beast of Beauty (2003).

In 2001 Ingrid Lorentzen won The Norwegian Critics' Dance Award for her role in Kim Brandstrup's work Place of Stone, and in 2004 Telenor's Culture Prize, labelled Boundless Communication.

She has been a member of Arts Council Norway and the council's dance committee, the jury leader of the grant of the Norwegian culture schools, and a member of the artistic council of the ballet laboratory at The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet.

Ingrid Lorentzenwas nominated for The Hedda Award 1998 in the particularly excellent performance category for her performance in Babies of Babel.
