Ja, jeg elsker!* (Yes, I love!) by Teater Grimsborken was made for the Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson jubilee in 2010. What made Bjørnson (1832 -1910) so famous? In this production his political involvement is lifted, carried by a great ego, a burning heart and eager enthusiasm.

Ja, jeg elsker! was made with school pupils in mind, wanting them to hear about Bjørnson’s significance for national self-respect, his interest for women’s issues, his efforts for vulnerable groups in Europe etc. Poems, tastes from novels and excerpts from speeches are central in the performance. Bjørnson often used his literary talents to convey political convictions and social pet peeves.

Bjørnson wrote the lyrics for the Norwegian national anthem, Ja, vi elsker (literally: Yes, we love).
