Beauty

In the installation Beauty by Manuela Agnesini (Italy/ France) a lying woman is displayed. She is naked and attached to electrodes and apparatuses used for passive bodybuilding. A man sits at a control board. He adjusts switches and creates a kind of silent choreography ruled by electronic impulses and the contractions of the muscles.

In Beauty the Italian artist Manuela Agnesini examines the body and the transitions between the artificial and the natural. What is determining the relationship between being a body and the duty for beauty? The choreography is accompanied by a voice taking us into the inner journey of the woman.

From the performance program:

"Beauty is an installation in non-evolutive form with micro-events - a moved muscle, opening eyes - kind of duration-place in which the spectator enters and walks through following, if he/she wishes, his/her own desire, a 30 minutes choreographed installation for body and machines.

A naked woman covered by electrics machines for passive bodybuilding lies on a lounge-chair. She is blonde. Hair style reminds of mythological images. As does her body posture. Eve... Venus...

Beauty born as a mirror
not an answer
neither a judgment
it's a state of things
a stratification
a paroxysm
a way to take distances
a mirror for the visitor, too"

Beauty was part of Extreme, a weekend with performance, installations and concerts at BIT Teatergarasjen the autumn of 2004.
