At the webpage of Rogaland Theatre the following, among other things, is written about Pan:

"When head of the theatre Arne Nøst this fall takes on Hamsun's iconic work, he is responsible for the direction, the stage design and the music. He emphasises the dream perspective of Pan, and he lets the whole of the action play out in a dreamlike world of imagination, in which the persons show up and disappear again, against all logic.

In Pan (1894), the young Lieutenant Thomas Glahn tells of his experiences near the merchant port Sirilund in the county of Nordland. The year is 1855, and Glahn tries to make a living as a hunter and fisherman. He lives in a simple cabin and makes the impression he is leading an isolated life in tune with nature. At the same time, he socialises with the local elite. In town he falls in love with Edvarda - merchant Mack's daughter - and in the forest he takes Eva - the smith's wife - as his mistress.

Glahn is a confused, spontaneous, chaotic and hypersensitive outsider who is thrown into an at times deadly battle between nature and culture. He is a strong-willed person with strong desires. But his personality makes it hard for him to get what he wants - that is, Edvarda. He doesn't master the rules of the social game, and at the same time, he bears a contempt of civilisation. This does not make it any easier.

In Pan, Arne Nøst confronts the strong emotions of love and infatuation, and he describes how these feelings can awaken the most sombre sides of human beings. The recurring theme of the play is a mysterious evil power lurking beneath the surface, without letting anyone grasp exactly what it is."
