"We all love the universe Dickens draws up for us. The London fog, the burlesque characters, the evil against the good, the rich against the poor, the adventurous and the magical! What if this universe from 200 years back also looks like the one we will meet in our own future? In true Dickensian spirit we make a Christmas carol, or a carol for Christmas, if you like. In it, we take a sneak peek into the future, and a look back at the past through the eyes of the misanthropist, cynical career woman Carol."

"In style and content A Christmas for Carol moves effortlessly between past, present and future. (...) We are some - not many - years into the future. The climate disaster is a fact. Over town lies smog so thick mobile phones no longer work. Electricity blackouts are so frequent that pen and paper again have replaced computers. There's a lack of medicines. People starve. Neo-liberalism decides how to share the values that are left. The result is a world very much like the one Charles Dickens lived in. (...) Sundvor's version of A Christmas Carol has turned Scrooge into a middle-aged woman - Carol, played by Nina Ellen Ødegård - but the characteristics are the same. Carol Stendahl is grumpy, grim and greedy, but prefers to look at herself as the responsible and everybody else as systematic wasters. Ødegård lets a fragile social insecurity shine through the strict facade, a clumsiness that contributes to explaining the change, when that comes."
