Skylight

At the website of The National Theatre the following, among other things, is written about Skylight:

"The play is written by the prize-awarded British playwright and director David Hare and is originally a family drama from the Thatcher-era England. But the issues raised in the play are as topical in contemporary Norway and the ethical choices we face in one of the wealthiest countries in the world.

We meet the teacher Kyra Hollis, who works for a troubled school in Eastern London, when she is visited by the teenager Edward one evening. He is the son of Tom Sargeant, an older successful businessman she once had an affair with, many years back. At the time she lived with, and worked for, the Sargeant family. The affair was discovered, and Kyra moved out. Now Edward's mother is dead, and Tom a widower. Can Kyra and Tom get back together?

The passion and excitement are still there, but Tom's contempt for Kyra's ambitions and choice of profession permeates the way he sees her. Skylight is a portrait of three persons and their fates and choices in life. It is also a production revolving around capitalism and socialism, human worth and love.
