"Peer Perez Øian has brought in stage designer Etienne Pluss (The Good Person of Szechwan) and is ready for his first production on the main stage. Twenty Thousand Pages is written by one of the leading playwright names in Europe, Lukas Bärfuss.
Historical material
In short it is about Tony, a young man who comes across a container, seeing an old sound player he wants to pick up. A box of books meant for the container hits him in the head. In a miraculous manner all these pages, twenty thousand of them, are stored within his brain. The texts stored make a historical investigation report about Switzerland's role during World War II, and the report contains information many people do not want shared with the world. It shows how Switzerland treated refugees from Nazi Germany, and how the banks got hand of war profit and Jewish fortunes.
Satire with sombre undertones
Now Tony walks around like a living witness, but nobody wants to listen to him. This knowledge makes him end up in strange, comic situations. It is funny, challenging and revealing. Because the texts Tony is quoting, are from an actual report. Like the report in the play that, too, was silenced into oblivion."
