Jack and the Beanstalk

Jack and the Beanstalk was a theatre production by Teater Manu, produced in 2012 and based on the fairytale by the same title.

Mira Zuckermann directed it.

Roger Gihlemoen won The Hedda Award 2013 in the best audiovisual design category for work in Jack and the Beanstalk.

The Hedda jury gave the following reason:

"Hand in hand with the technical development video and the art of animation have entered the theatre stage. This year's winner has created a virtual world as present as the room the audience is placed in, in which one is pulled in by elegant scene changes and very successful interaction between stage design and animation. The award goes to an artist who has managed to transfer Motion Capture to the medium of theatre and contributed to create a production which makes its mark as yet another success within visual theatre for hearing-impaired children. This year's best audiovisual design award goes to Roger Gihlemoen."

At the webpage of Teater Manu the following, among other things, is written about Jack and the Beanstalk:

"Jack prefers to stay in his hammock where he can daydream and not think about realities. His father has disappeared and his mother struggles at home. Like most youth Jack will rather enjoy the summer than help her. One day his mother has to sell their cow to pay for food. Jack is sent to the market, but comes back home with magical beans instead of money. His mother is furious and throws the beans out the window. But during the night the incredible happens: The bean starts growing into a giant beanstalk. Jack is unable to resist temptation, and climbs it. He enters an amazing dream world with talking animals and scary giants. Nobody has been able to return after climbing the beanstalk before. What will happen to Jack?

Teater Manu's Jack and the Beanstalk will be a unique experience for adults and children alike. The theatre experiments with modern technology in this production, to lift the theatre experience some notches, entirely different from what one usually sees on a theatre stage. We get to see animation and actors collaborate in bringing this dream world alive."
