The Shameful Murder in Skippergata

The Shameful Murder in Skippergata by Finn Iunker directed by Franzisca Aarflot had its world wide premiere in The Open Theatre (Det Åpne Teater) the autumn of 2006. The play is based on the most controversial murder case in post-war Norway, the case of Torgersen. The main focus has always been on the sentenced Fredrik Fasting Torgersen, but Iunker chose to approach the story through the victim, 16 year old Rigmor Johnsen.

The production The Shameful Murder in Skippergata was made as a collage with sequences within different genres, including a flashback on Norwegian history seen through the eyes of Torgersen and Rigmor respectively – what they both lost out on by becoming the main characters in the case.

"A 16 year old girl was raped and murdered: The hunt for the guilty starts. The eagerness to end the pain by having a man sentenced and locked away provides fertile ground for quick conclusions. How can justice be maintained?"

Onstage the audience met a group of young people in charge of their own investigation of a murder and a sentence.
