Kameratklubben* (The Club of Comrades)

Kameratklubben* (The Club of Comrades) (2009) by Fabula Rasa was an existential solo performance about faith, hope and survival strategies. It was inspired by Kameratklubben in Porsgrunn, a Christian home for substance abusers.

*Not yet translated into English. The title within parentheses is the Norwegian title's literal meaning. The performance is, however, translated into French, with the title of "Le Club des Copains".

More

Nina Ossavy grew up in Kameratklubben because her parents were administrating the place. Nina’s story was being told live, and in addition to it, the audience met Rune Jensen and Karin Olson through documentary video material. Rune is a former drug addict, now a recent dad, and Karin Olson is today’s head of management of Kameratklubben. She has worked for the club without pay for 15 years.

Ossavy returned to Kameratklubben to find the reasons of her workaholism. All of Rune’s comrades are dead from their substance abuse, but he found faith, hope and love, the reason he is alive today. Are there similarities between Nina’s story and Rune’s? Is it all about not giving up?

With energy and humour Ossavy told the story of unexpected friendship and the power of life, about hopelessness and survival. Kameratklubben was a performance close to reality, mixing theatre, lecture and documentary film.

To reconcile with one’s childhood can be as difficult as giving up drugs, says Karin Olson.
