Pressure

The solo Pressure by and with Inger-Reidun Olsen was a journey and a personal imprint. The production was created through meetings with inner and outer walls, hindrances, barriers and boundaries. It was about working with, and in relation to, pressure and expectations of one's own and from others, more than it was about surpassing. Pressure is not a constant or static force. Thus the production was also continuously in development, in motion, if one likes.

As a dancer in Pressure Inger-Reidun Olsen worked to find resonance in her own body. What the audience got to see one day may not have been the same as the audience the next day. It was about a dialogue, or perhaps even negotiation, between the outside and the inside through use of voice, movement and not least humour in the meeting with the audience.

To begin with, the performance situation provides outer pressure, represented by the presence of an audience. The pressure of expectations from glances and bodies turned against the performer. In this situation an inner pressure of expectations also arises, of expectations to one's own performance. The question is how to solve this.

Pressure by Inger-Reidun Olsen was supported by The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (travel grant/performing arts).
