Christer Tornell

Christer Tornell is a Swedish dancer living in Norway. Tornell started his career as a figure skater and was included in the Swedish national team 1983-85. He was educated as a dancer in Gothenburg. In Norway he has danced in four productions by Oslo Dance Ensemble (ODE).

Christer Tornell has worked with the contemporary dance choreographers Kjersti Alveberg and Sølvi Edvardsen and toured with a number of their works in Norway, Finland, India, France, Zimbabwe and other countries.

From 2001 Christer Tornell has choreographed for Dans & Toner with Marit Krogeide. With the company, consisting of Marit Krogeide and Peter Lodwick, Tornell has toured with productions for a decade.

Christer Tornell has danced in 22 musicals including Cats, West Side Story, A Chorus Line, Sugar, La cage aux folles in Oslo and Stockholm.

His TV assignments as a dancer include working for Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation in the Eurovision Song Contest, the concert in Holmenkollen, Prinsesseeventyr (literally: Princess Fairytales) with Princess Martha Louise and the TV2 production 100 år med egen stemme (literally: 100 years with a voice of one's own) as part of the 100 year celebration of the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden.

From 2007 to 2012 Tornell has been among the judges for TV2's dance competition Skal vi Danse (the Norwegian edition of Dancing with the Stars). He also plays one of the main parts in the soap opera series Hotell Cæsar (Hotel Caesar) the autumn of 2012.

From 2010 he has, with Nina Lill Svendsen, produced the production See Me, choreographed by Sølvi Edvardsen. The production has toured in Norway and Zimbabwe 2009-2012.

Nina Lill Svendsen and Christer Tornell also produce and choreograph for Oslo Dance Ensemble in 2012-2013.

Christer Tornell is responsible for the choreography of the musical Isdronningen (literally: The Ice Queen), the story of the life of Sonja Henie, opening November 15 2012 in the culture centre in Bærum called Bærum Kulturhus.

Educated at Ballettakademien (part of the Adult Education Association in Sweden) and Dansforum (upper secondary school level) in Gothenburg, Sweden.
