Torkil Sandsund

Torkil Sandsund is a Norwegian director, born June 15 1977.

Torkil Sandsund has studied direction at The National Academy of Theatre, and the autumn of 2005 he staged Tennessee Williams' Kingdom of Earth for Rogaland Theatre, as his diploma work.

The spring of 2006 Torkil Sandsund staged Roland Schimmelpfennig's For a Better World, performed thrice during The National Stage's festival of contemporary drama.

He took part in The National Stage's Afghanistan project in Kabul in 2007-2008.

In Norway he is one of the driving forces behind Black Box Teater's Podium, a test platform for live, sound, video and installation art, plus an active performing arts laboratory.

He and his live-in partnerMiriam Prestøy Lie constitute the performing arts company Sandsund/Lie ANS. The couple has produced The Dolphin in collaboration with Hordaland Theatre and Sogn og Fjordane Theatre (SoFT), and Urmakarens Hjarte* (The Heart of the Clockmaker) in collaboration with Sogn og Fjordane Theatre. Urmakarens Hjarte was nominated for The Hedda Award 2012 in the category of best production for children and youth.

In 2007 Torkil Sandsund was nominated for The Hedda Award in the category of best direction for Twins by Agota Kristof at The Norwegian Theatre.

Torkil Sandsund also directed Mikael Hetles siste ord* (The Last Words of Mikal Hetle) for Sogn og Fjordane Theatre in 2007. This was the play Edvard Hoem got The Norwegian Ibsen Award AKA The Ibsen Prize for.
