Jan Decorte

Director and actor Jan Decorte has been an important figure in Belgian theatre for 30 years, and is also known as a TV celebrity and a moviemaker. He was part of the so-called Flemish wave from its beginning during the 1980es and is a master of simplification, either he deals with cutting a classic to the bone or distilling the scenographic expression to its most effectful. Jan Decorte's trademark is the repetition, the way one finds it in rituals, in classic Greek theatre or in Japanese Noh theatre – mixed with a dose of humour and madness.
