Terje Nordby

Terje Nordby (born 1949) is a Norwegian playwright, writer and mythologist. Nordby wrote for Tramteatret and is known for the NRK P2 radio program Mytekalender (literally: Myth Calendar) and the book series by the same title.

Terje Nordby has lived in Oslo, Trondheim, Italy and Greece. In 2003 he moved back to Oslo.

During the 1990es Terje Nordby worked as an independent playwright for stage, radio and TV, with productions in Norway and abroad. Eight of his plays have been published as books, including Frost Flower, for which he got The Norwegian Ibsen Award (AKA The Ibsen Prize) in 1995, and Come Back, Liza, which won a European radio theatre award.

Terje Nordby also has written revue acts and satire beyond the company Tramteatret, including the TV talk show Nikkerne (literally: The Nodders). For almost a decade he contributed regularly to the Norwegian radio satire show Hallo i uken (literally: Hello in the Week - a wordplay on the Norwegian idiom Hallo i luken, which means Hello to the box office. The uses of it includes expressing a surprise visit or to signal that somebody said something silly).

Himmelske Lyster* (Divine Desires) (Hedmark Theatre) was nominated for The Hedda Award 2008 in the category of theatre project of the year.

Nordby also has worked as an actor and instructor, and he lectures and teaches in mythology and classic literature. He has performed as a storyteller of myths in musical contexts, with The Norwegian Radio Orchestra/KORK, The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and Barokksolistene, among other things.
