Solveig Leinan-Hermo

Solveig Leinan-Hermo (born June 18 1952) is a Norwegian dancer, choreographer and executive director for the dance theatre company Stellaris Dance Theatre. She has a three year long pedagogue education from the ballet school of The Norwegian Opera. She has worked with independent companies such as Høvikballetten and Dans Design prior to starting her own company in Hammerfest 1980, at the time under the name Hammerfest Ballettverksted (literally: Hammerfest Ballet Workshop). From 2003 the company name has been Stellaris Dance Theatre (Norwegian: Stellaris DansTeater).

Solveig Leinan-Hermo has been a potent contributor to the performing communities of Northern Norway and the Barents region. As the leader of and an enthusiast for the northernmost dance company in the world and for the festival DanceFestival Barents she has made a significant pioneering effort. Among her productions the critically acclaimed Where the Mainland Floats (2002) and From a Hanging Line (2004) can be mentioned. Solveig Leinan-Hermo was awarded the honourable award from Dance Information Norway (then called Senter for Dansekunst) in 2003.
